When you’ve had dogs for a long time, it’s hard to accept their absence. As well as missing their individual personalities, you miss that canine presence in the home. There’s something magical about the presence of a dog. Mine used to sleep a lot, and I used to imagine they were visiting the astral plane hunting down ideas for my stories.
I also have the more practical problem of what to do with my blog now my Storyhounds have crossed the Bridge, as they used to ‘write’ most of my posts. That’s the trouble with a dog blog – what do you do when the dogs have gone?
This blog may have to evolve, but it’s not going away, so please stick with it if you can! I’d welcome your suggestions – what sort of posts would you like to see here?
I suppose you have to reminisce until it’s time to get another dog 🙂

I hope it won’t be too long before that happens. 🙂

Me too. Husband jokes about the post-Finbar era and keeps saying, he’ll be sorely missed, but…
He has been a lot of hard work and physically a handful, but when he goes it will be like losing a limb. He’ll be thirteen soon and starting to slow down a bit ie doesn’t run around like a mad thing quite as much, as far, or as fast. I can’t imagine a daily routine that isn’t entirely centred on him.

I know what you mean about losing a limb, they are so much part of our lives. And yes, they are hard work sometimes, but so worth it!

Depends what you look for in a dog. Everybody round here has got the same brown and white hunting spaniel. They are all ultra obedient, never go in the house, bark like crazy at anyone/anydog who goes past the house, but when they’re with their lord and master they keep shtum or else. They have no minds of their own. Sighthounds are just permanently crazy.

Give it time, Annabelle, and just chat with us. That’s really what blogs are about, chatting with friends. -hugs-

That is a lovely thought, I will take it on board. 🙂

I like the idea of chatting with us too Annabelle. Some lovely stories and pieces of inspiration can come from that and it helps you stay connected with friends from far away. Blogs tend to be organic and evolve over time xxx

Thank you. I’ve been reading your wonderful whippet haiku book again and trying to magnetize a whippet into my life! 🙂 xxx

Aww, that’s so lovely to hear, whippets make awesome companions! There’s an eight year old whippet called Rio looking for his furever home at Dogs Trust West Midlands at the moment – I’m not sure if that’s too far away for you to travel to xxx

Aww! I’m afraid it is a bit far. I do have some canine company at the moment, I’m fostering a lovely Lurcher called Keith while Greyhound Rescue Wales find him a forever home. 🙂

I’ll stick around, Annabelle. You need to take a break until you’re ready for another furry friend. And I know it’s not easy to find a dog that ‘writes’ as well as Millie and Pearl. (≚ᄌ≚)♡

Not easy at all – most of them write in Doglish, which is really hard to understand! 😉

I’m fostering a Lurcher for Greyhound Rescue at the moment. Maybe I can get him to write a guest post! 😉

Maybe it could be their adventures in the fairy realm… I’m so sorry, again…

Thank you… and thanks for the suggestion, I’ll bear it in mind. It would be lovely if I could get in contact with their spirits!

Yeah, sometimes I think they are still around. Probably just the mind of a holed-up writer playing tricks, but I’ll feel a cat jump up on the bed, and there’s nothing there…

I’ve had something similar – the feeling of a weight lying next to me on the bed or the sound of greyhound footsteps padding around the room in the night. It’s stopped now, though, so I’m assuming they’re settling into their new lives in the Land of Summer.

Yes, totally. A few nights ago I dreamed of my pirate princess Lettuce, and she was looking for me via my dream. Oh, I remembered I read this interview that may (or may not) help some to read: https://horrortree.com/wihm-an-interview-with-jessica-mchugh-2/
